About the Battery Energy Storage Project

The Central BESS is located approximately 636 kilometres (395 mi) north west of the state capital, Brisbane and 22 kilometres (14 mi) south of the regional centre of Rockhampton. The project will support Queensland’s clean energy transition and secure reliable, affordable power for Queenslanders. Additionally, The Central BESS is proposed to connect directly to Bouldercombe Terminal Station at 275kV.

Community

From early 2024 ACEnergy is has actively sought feedback from the local community. As part of our development strategy we have committed commit to ongoing community engagement throughout the project lifecycle.

Whilst the Council and relevant authorities are considering the development application for the project, and whilst the development assessment process is at the public notification phase, we have placed a hold on progressing these initiatives and interactions, until such time as a satisfactory development approval has been issued. We expect we will resume these initiatives in early 2025.

Supporting Your Community

ACEnergy is actively seeking feedback from the local community. As part of our development strategy, we commit to ongoing community engagement throughout the project lifecycle.

We are pledging $1.5m over the duration of the project. This will be allocated across two key initiatives:

Community Benefit Fund

  • ACEnergy is committed to and in the process of setting up a Community Benefit Fund for the Bouldercombe community
  • We have already commenced seeking submissions from local community groups and organisations, via the project website, for grants and sponsorships to the value of $20,000 per annum over a 5-year period
  • The fund is yet to be fully allocated, and we will continue to consult with the Bouldercombe community on how best to allocate this funding.

We encourage local groups and organisations to apply to be considered for funding.

  • Local recreational activities;
  • Local educational groups;
  • Local agricultural community groups
  • Other local community groups

Neighbourhood Benefit Sharing Program

  • ACEnergy is committed to ensuring that residents of Bouldercombe benefit directly from the installation of this battery.
  • This program will provide direct financial benefits to nearby property owners, beginning upon project approval and continuing for 20 years
  • In addition, this program will see all residents within a one-kilometre radius of the project receive $1,500 per annum

ACEnergy will work closely with the community to ensure the funding is properly administered and allocated to provide direct benefits to the community
